Students of Music Ed student Matt Swanson designed cigar box guitars in a hands-on project at their University-area school. As our culture continues to develop and modify, adjustments in our view of the philosophy of music education will necessitate modifications in the field of education. If music is so useful and important in the schools, then music educators have to decide what will be taught. Outreach need to be increased to non-traditional and unique education students and additional possibilities for music applications beyond band, orchestra and choir should be supplied to all secondary level students. The foundation of any philosophy of music education have to answer the question about why music has value.
